DJI Introduces SDR Transmission System for Filmmakers

DJI, a global leader in creative camera technology, has unveiled its latest video transmission system designed to enhance accessibility to advanced software-defined radio (SDR) technology. Tailored for small- and medium-sized film crews, the DJI SDR Transmission offers improved stability, robust interference resistance, and reliable penetration capabilities. Filmmakers can now benefit from seamless Wi-Fi transmissions for temporary monitoring, providing the flexibility they need on set.

“Since the beginning, we intended our DJI PRO line to be a comprehensive and reliable ecosystem of drones, cameras, and creator tools,” says Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI. “Listening closely to user feedback, we continue to expand our offerings in creative camera technologies with careful attention to what’s needed. Our new DJI SDR Transmission delivers film and television-level image transmission quality at a more accessible price point for upcoming filmmakers.”

Key Features:

  1. High-Quality Video Feeds with Ultimate Stability:
    • The DJI SDR Transmission ensures stable video transmissions even in complex shooting environments.
    • Filmmakers receive 1080p/60fps live feeds with a bitrate of up to 20Mbps and a low delay of 35 milliseconds.
    • Videos can be transmitted up to 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) away.
    • Superior penetration capabilities maintain stable live video feeds even in challenging conditions.
  2. Smooth Collaboration with Diverse Monitoring Methods:
    • The system outputs three SDR signals and two Wi-Fi signals simultaneously.
    • Broadcast mode allows connection to unlimited receivers, facilitating high-quality monitoring for multiple collaborators.
    • Receivers connect to monitors via SDI/HDMI and smartphones/tablets via USB-C or Wi-Fi.
  3. Remote Camera Controls for Agile Monitoring:
    • Compatible with DJI RS Series Stabilizers, the DJI SDR Transmission supports Force Mobile, virtual joystick, and gimbal recentering functions.
    • Camera control features include adjusting aperture, shutter, ISO, and triggering photo-taking and video-recording functions through the app.
    • CEC control of Sony cameras is also supported.
  4. Efficient Workflow and Collaboration:
    • Metadata transmission enhances collaboration during filming.
    • DJI SDR Transmission integrates seamlessly with the DJI Ronin app in Broadcast mode, allowing users to switch between camera indexes.
    • Mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and RED can be adapted via SDI for real-time access to detailed shooting information.
  5. Versatile Power Supply Options:
    • Standard PD protocol charger with USB-C power input.
    • Can be powered directly by DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, or DJI RS 3 Pro when mounted together, eliminating the need for a separate battery.
    • Transmitter and receiver both support industry-standard NP-F batteries.
  6. Compact, Lightweight, and Portable:
    • Designed for on-the-go crews.
    • Each transmitter or receiver weighs only 145 g (5.1 oz).
    • Foldable antenna for easy storage.
